Monday 9/12: Today we wrapped up our Puritan unit by critically reading Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God. See the Sinners PP for the notes, the discussion questions, and the Four Square assignment. If you were absent, you need to critically read the sermon and do the Four Square assignment on slide 6 of the Sinners PP). Optional homework for everyone: vocab list 1.
Friday 9/9: Puritan Poetry Friday! We looked at the poetry of Bradstreet and Taylor. See slides 15-22 for the questions/assignments. We then read an articled called "Our Puritan Life", and discussed if America of 2016 is still a Puritan society. For Monday: please print the document/PDF called Sinners Excerpt under the Intro Unit PP. Thursday 9/8: Today we had a reading quiz on the Of Plymouth Plantation reading (make-ups in my office, 2410 K, on Wednesday morning). We then discussed Puritans and their lifestyle. Finally we took some notes on Puritans and their place in early America. Please see slides 2-14 of the Puritan PP for notes. For Monday: please print the document/PDF called Sinners Excerpt under the Intro Unit PP. Wednesday 9/7: Today we checked out textbooks. Any time left was to read Of Plymouth Plantation. This document can be found either on ActivelyLearn or linked above. You need to read this by tomorrow...there may be a reading quiz. Tuesday 9/6: Today we did a little timed writing assignment. If you were absent, please do the assignment on slides 2-4 of the Skills Assessment PP. We then talked about stereotypes and the role of Native Americans in American culture. Please see the Native Americans PP, slides 2-14 for the lesson and discussion questions (you do not need to make this up if you were absent). Friday 9/2: Today we took a pre-test. Make-ups will happen Tuesday after school or Wednesday before school. Please email me if you plan to make this up. Thursday 9/1: Today was all about getting back to school. We went over the syllabus (due Friday 9/9), tips for class (called Tips for Class 2016). We then did a brainstorming session with the following: "what does it mean to be an American", and "find a quote/song/lyric that you think best represents America"). These two are due tomorrow.
