Today we read Alice Walker's essay "The Civil Rights Movement: What Good Was It?", and wrote one paragraph about "what good was the Civil Rights Movement?" (slide 13). Homework: read either Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech (#1) or Malcolm X's "Ballot or the Bullet" speech (#2), depending on what you were assigned today. For tomorrow, you should have write down: what the message is, what Malcolm X or MLK want African Americans and the general American population to do, and what techniques they use to convey their messages.
Today we analyzed "Riot!" by Gwendolyn Brooks (slides 10-11), and had work time for the Civil Rights Collage (slide 12). Collage is due 4/20.
Today was started our Civil Rights Movement Unit by taking some brief notes (slides 1-5), analyzing "Letters from a Birmingham Jail" by MLK, Jr. (slide 6), and then analyzing the poem "The Ballad of Birmingham" (slides 7-9).
Today we took The Crucible test and essay. If you missed the test, or would like to retake it, you need to let me know and come in on Wednesday, 4/4, to take/retake the test. Homework: read "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" by MLK, Jr. for Monday.

Today I shared 'the truth" about The Crucible, and then we watched the film version of Act IV. Make sure you bring your junior project rough draft to class tomorrow so we can peer edit!
Today we finished reading Act IV, and then analyzed character actions and why they would accuse others of witchcraft.
