Today we had our -Isms Test (make-ups next Wednesday morning in my office, room 2410 K). Homework this weekend is to read chapters 1-3 in Huck Finn for Monday.

Today we reviewed (review document) for the -Isms test tomorrow (20 multiple choice questions, one passage identification where I give you a story/poem, and you have to determine what -isms it is, give three characteristics of that -ism, find three examples from the selection, and then provide three pieces of analysis). You will be allowed to use only the review document on the test tomorrow. We also checked out Huck Finn books.

Today we finished our last -ism for this unit, Realism. We took brief notes, on slides 1-14, (note taking sheet here), and then analyzed naturalist paintings (slides 15-25), and then wrote a reflection (slide 26). If you were absent, make sure you are doing the analysis and the reflection as these will be going in a homework packet (due Monday).

Today we had our Transcendentalism jigsaw (see slides 16-17 for the assignment). Self-Reliance reading, Civil Disobedience reading. You shared with people who read the same essay, then got in mixed groups. The group assignment can be found on slides 18-21. Whatever time was left we watched Batman Returns.

I then briefly lectured about Transcendentalism (note sheet here), and introduced the homework assignment due tomorrow...jigsaw prep reading and questions (see slides 16-17 for the assignment). Edgar Allen Poe Stories Today we started watching Batman Returns (see slides 20-24 for the notes, and slide 22 for the reflection questions that will be going in a homework packet).

Today we took notes on Dark Romanticism (note taking sheet here), and then I assigned the Edgar Allen Poe project (slide 15-17). Your task today is to read the story your group was assigned, making sure you can answer the questions on slide 16. Also, make sure you bring in any art supplies you might need to work on the project tomorrow.
Edgar Allen Poe Stories Today we took notes on Romanticism (note taking form here), and then read/analyzed "Thanatopsis" by William Cullen Bryant. No homework!
Today we started our -Isms unit by taking notes on the Rationalists (note taking guide). We then created our own 13 Virtues similar to Benjamin Franklin (slides 11-16). The 13 Virtues are due tomorrow!
