Today I gave you the reading guide for Fences (this one is required), and then we read Act 1, Scene I aloud as a class.
Today we had work time for the OPCVL and language lense for the second semester research project. We then started Fences by taking notes on the play (slides 1-9), and then analyzed the article "The Meanings of a Word" by Gloria Naylor.
Today we looked at confessional poets (slides 27-35), and compared them to the 1950s housewife (slides 36-53).
Reminder: vocab 5 is due by 10pm Tuesday, 3/3 20 words, part of speech, definition in your own words, and sentence that proves you understand the word. Work time for the second semester research project. Next due date: OPCVL due 3/6 (on turnitin.com and hard copy in class that morning).
Today we worked on OPCVL and language lens analysis of "America" (slides 23-26). Tomorrow we will have another library day to work on your sources (7 total, OPCVL and language lens analysis for two primary and one secondary source).
Today we took notes on The Beats and Allen Ginsberg (slides 8-23). You then had work time for "America" that you should read for tomorrow.
Homework (due Thursday): read "America" that you should read for tomorrow (any term that is underline should be defined by you for Thursday. Ex. atom bomb: the bomb that was dropped on Japan by the US during WWII. One sentence definition is totally fine!). We started the 1950s by examining conformity and analyzing the film Pleasantville (slides 1-6). The viewing guide will go in a participation packet.
