We are still watching A Christmas Story. We will be writing holiday memoirs on Tuesday, so we are watching the film as an inspiration.
Prompt: What is your favorite holiday memory? Provide lots of details using imagery to set the scene for the reader. These must be at least 500 words, and are due when we get back from break.

Today we had the Winter Concert, and then started watching A Christmas Story. We will be writing holiday memoirs on Tuesday, so we are watching the film as an inspiration.
Prompt: What is your favorite holiday memory? Provide lots of details using imagery to set the scene for the reader. These must be at least 500 words, and are due when we get back from break. Today was a work period for the Gatsby Socratic seminar (prep work and seminar is 1/5). Make sure you are just answering the Seminar Prep Questions on slide 64.
Today we shared our song choices, and then did a gallery walk for the Eulogy Assignment. We then started writing a Found Poem using The Great Gatsby. Directions are on slides 54-57. No homework.
Today we finished the Blame Game reflection and discussion. We then analyzed Jay Z and Gatsby by looking at the music in the film, and why/if that music is appropriate.
Homework:
Today we played the Blame Game (slides 50-51), and reflected on the ending of the novel (slide 52...going in a homework packet).
Reflection questions for Blame Game:
Today I introduced the partner Eulogy Assignment (slides 48-49, due Tuesday; grading based on 10 point scale). We then watched chapters 8-9 of the film while you worked.
Today we talked about color symbolism and did a group assignment (slides 24-37), and talked about other symbols in the novel (slides 43-48). Don't forget: Socratic seminar has been moved to 1/5/2017.
Today we had our timed write (slides 38-40), then we graded ourselves and wrote a reflection (slide 41). If you were absent, you will need to come in Wednesday morning to make up the timed write and the reflection (about 50 minutes total). Homework is to read chapter 9 in Gatsby for tomorrow.
Timed Write Reflection Questions: 1.Using the rubric, give yourself a score out of 10 for evidence, and a score out of 10 for analysis/thesis 2.For evidence: what evidence did you use that supported your thesis? 3.For analysis/thesis: how did you use analysis to support your thesis and evidence? 4.After: What areas do you see as your strength? Why? What areas do you see as your weakness? Why? This should be about a paragraph reflection. |
