Today we had chapter presentations. I then assigned the Huck Finn essay, and we had a thesis workshop using the Walt Whitman thesis statements from a few weeks ago. Homework is chapters 34-37.

Today we had chapter presentations, then discussed satire (slides 57-64). I had you practice determining if a statement is satire or not, and then gave you a group satire assignment, to create a satire social media page for Mark Twain (directions on slide 65). Homework is to read chapters 32-33 in Huck Finn.
We had chapter presentations. We then started discussing the Hatfields and McCoys reading, and shared our chart. We then did a partner assignment of creating a headline with three details from the feud, and then answered some reflections questions (slides 55-56). Homework is chapters 30-31 for tomorrow.
We had chapter presentations (these can always be found under Huck Finn Resources on the main tab menu). These two days were spent analyzing the Hatfields and McCoys feud in order to better understand the satire of the Shepherdsons and Grangerfords feud. See slides 49-54 for the notes, and slide 55 for the assignment. Your task over the next two days is to finish the Hatfields and McCoys background reading, and complete/print the chart on the last page. All of this must be done by Wednesday at the start of class. Homework: Monday: Huck Finn chapters 26-27, Tuesday: Huck Finn chapters 28-29.
Today we had chapter 20-21 presentations, then had our slave narratives jigsaw (slide 48). Homework is to read chapters 22-25 in Huck Finn.
Today we had chapter 18-19 presentations. I then introduced the slave narratives jigsaw using the essays of Frederick Douglass and Harriet Jacobs. You can find the notes on slides 43-45, the assignment on slide 46, and the prep questions on slide 47 (and attached as a worksheet here). These prep questions need to be finished for tomorrow. Homework is reading chapters 20-21 in Huck Finn, and finishing the slave narratives prep questions.
Today we had chapter 16-17 presentations, finished up Modernism notes, and then had a reading day. Homework is to read chapters 18-19, and work on your Quote Analysis Journal. I will be checking quotes up to chapter 19 on Friday!

We then took some brief notes on modernism (see slides 31-42, note sheet here). Homework is to read chapters 16-17 in Huck Finn for Monday. Don't forget to be working on your Quote Analysis Journal!
Today we had chapter 10-11 presentations, and then started looking at the American Realist poet, Walt Whitman (slides 16-24). We analyzed his poem "I Hear America Singing" (slide 25), then I gave you your group assignment for the Whitman metaphor (slides 26-30). Homework is to read chapters 12-15 in Huck Finn for Monday. Don't forget to be working on your Quote Analysis Journal!
