Today we discussed "Our Inner Puritan". We then critically read "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and discussed the Puritan God. Please see slides 1-4 for the notes, slide 5 for the questions you need to answer, slides 6-8 for further discussion, and slide 9 for the group activity. If you were absent, you must critically read the sermon and answer the questions on slide 5. Homework: critically read the Declaration of Independence for class on Monday.

Today we looked at the Puritan poetry of Edward Taylor and Anne Bradstreet. Please see slides 15-27 for the notes on the poets and the poems/discussion we had. Finally, I gave you a short article, "Our Inner Puritan" that you need to read for class tomorrow. We will be discussing elements of American society that we can trace back to the Puritans.
Today I introduced the Puritans and we took some brief notes (slides 1-11). We then analyzed Jonathan Edwards Puritan Code (slides 12-13) in small groups. Here is the note taking sheet for extra support if needed.
Today we continued our review of Native American creation myths. We discussed the myths we read last night, and then started working on our own creation myths (see slides 18-20 for notes and the assignment). These are due on turnitin.com by Sunday, 9/17 at 10pm. Don't forget: skills assessment is due tonight by 10pm on turnitin.com, and you need to turn in your signed syllabus by Friday!
Today we started our first unit: Early Americans. We talked about Native Americans and defined terms like racism, discrimination, prejudice, and stereotype. We then did an activity looking at stereotypes and where they come from (see slides 1-14). We then started looking at Native American creation myths (slides 15-17). Your homework is to finish reading your creation myth (for class tomorrow).
Today we reviewed the skills assessment from yesterday (these are due 9/12 by 10pm on turnitin.com). We then worked on an I Am Poem (Directions below. Please make sure you complete this and give it to me). Don't forget to bring in your signed syllabus by next Friday!

The first task was to create a thesis (slide 2), we then discussed what values and ideals mean (slide 3), and finally, you started working on your 500 word essay using the thesis and answering the prompt on slide 4.
