Today we were in lab working on feminism! I gave you brief notes on feminism and the Second Wave of Feminism (slides 29-33). Your task is to read the Gloria Steinem essay "Women's Liberation Aims to Free Men, Too", and then answer the questions on the Feminism Worksheet (see slides 34-35). Your final task is to research a feminist icon, and write a brief biography of them (see slide 35). Don't forget: your spring essay rough draft is due Tuesday by 10pm. You need a hard copy for class Wednesday too. Homework: make sure you print, or have access to the following readings for tomorrow:

Today was a work period for your spring essay rough draft. Please make sure you check my feedback on your outlines before you start writing! These rough drafts are due 5/16 on turnitin.com (by 10pm), and a hard copy is due 5/17.
Today we analyzed "What They Carried" (slides 14-18...all done as a group). I then introduced the gay rights movement and the AIDS epidemic and we took notes/discussed the impact (see slides 19-28). Tomorrow is a work period for your spring essay rough drafts.
Today we had Book Club 3. We talked about what we read, shared our job sheets, and then, as groups, answered the questions on slide 22. Homework: please read the story, "What They Carried".
Book Club Questions: Write a response to the following questions (just need to do one sheet per group): 1. Analyze why Rose Mary would stay with Rex. 2. How do you feel about the major characters?
4. Determine whether Jeannette is successful because of her family or despite her family. Today we looked at the emergence of environmentalism in the 1970s. You critically read an article called "Spaceship Earth", then answered questions individually (slides 10-13). Don't forget: Book Club 3 tomorrow so make sure you read (to page 163), and do your job sheets. You should also be working on the weekly personal reflection log!
Protest Homework Packet (due Wednesday)
Today we had a short reading quiz on the Deep Throat reading from the weekend. We then did a timed write (see slide 7 for the questions). If you were absent, you need to pick two questions and write for 20 minutes using evidence and analysis. We then had a wrap-up discussion (questions on slide 8). Please print "Spaceship Earth" for tomorrow. Don't forget: submit your spring analysis essay by 10pm tonight!

Today we started our two day discussion of Watergate and the secret source Deep Throat (please do not google any of the information!). For today, you task was to read "I'm The Guy They Called Deep Throat" Part I. You need to also answer the following questions:

Today we had Book Club 2! We talked about the pages read, I stamped the prep work, and then you created a social media page for one of the characters (see slide 20). You need to make sure you read pages 73-163 for next Wednesday. Also, don't forget to be doing the response logs (slide 7).
Today we read Ernest Hemingway's Hills Like White Elephants and complete group questions (if you were absent, you need to read the story and answer the questions on the worksheet). We then analyzed the story further (slide 8). Notes about the story can be found on slides 2-7 too.
