Welcome to November, and our next unit, the Turn of the Century Unit! Today we started looking at the First Wave of Feminism and the Cult of Domesticity. Today we had chapter presentations. We then looked at the social issues and social commentary Twain was making in Huck Finn. Please make sure you fill-in the Social Issues Chart. Homework is to read chapters 42-chapter the last in Huck Finn (last chapters!!!)
Today we had chapter presentations, and then did a thesis workshop for your working thesis. Any time left was reading time. Homework is to read chapters 40-41 in Huck Finn.
Today we had chapter presentations. I then introduced the reading assignment, "Is Huck Finn a Racist Book?" with the critical analysis questions (slides 75-77). We spent the period reading, answering the questions, and then having a class discussion. Homework: read chapter 38-39 in Huck Finn, and write your working thesis for our thesis workshop tomorrow.
