Today was a work day for the seminar (slides 72-78). The seminar is tomorrow!
Today we shared our song selection (class song selections) and our Gatsby Eulogy. We then worked on a group Found Poem (slides 68-71). No homework, unless you need to work on your seminar prep work (slides 72-78).
Class The Great Gatsby Found Poem! Today we worked on song analysis, annotating, and determining whether Jay-Z was an appropriate soundtrack for the film (slides 1-10). Homework is on slides 11-12, and due on Monday. You need to 1) Find one song that would be appropriate for the soundtrack of your version of The Great Gatsby. 2) Write out your rationalization for the songs, including: Musician & Song Title; Describe the song’s connection to Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (thematic, pace, characterization, etc.); Cite specific textual evidence to support your choice.
Today we did some more practice with symbolism, looking at symbolism through colors (slides 42-66). Make sure you are working on your Gatsby Eulogy (due 12/18).
Today we played the Blame Game (slides 38-41). The reflection on slide 41 will go in a homework packet. No homework!
The Great Gatsby Socratic seminar prep (slides 72-78) and due 12/20 Today we watched chapter 8-9 of the film, and then I introduced the Gatsby Eulogy assessment (slides 36-37). The rest of the period was work time. These are due on Monday, 12/18. Homework: finish the Blame Game prep sheet for tomorrow.
Today we talked about chapter 8, then did a symbolism board talk (slides 26-27). I then shared some more symbols (slides 28-34). If you were absent, you need to do the board talk on your own, and bring it to class. Homework is to read chapter 9, and start working on the Blame Game prep.
Today we watched the film version of chapter 7, and then we discussed the integrity and morals present/not present in the novel and the characters (slides 19-25). Homework is to read chapter 8 in The Great Gatsby.
