Today we shared our 80 Moments from the 80s. I then introduced the partner cultural brochure (slides 51-54) you will work on today and will turn in no later than 5/30 at the start of class. For Tuesday: bring in your The Glass Castle prep work, and notes for the assessment (which will happen 5/31). ENJOY THE LONG WEEKEND!
Mr. Gai took the whole period. Extended due date: 80 Moments from the 80s due FRIDAY.
Today we had our last book club for The Glass Castle! We discussed the novel ending (slides 27-28), I showed you their Welch house (slide 29), and the movie trailer. Your four response logs (see slide 7 for the information) are due Friday, May 26th, by 10pm, and on turnitin.com. Homework: finish the 80 Moments from the 80s assignment from Monday.
Today we answered some questions about the reading from last night, and then discussed multiculturalism. As a fun way to bring the idea of multiculturalism to the classroom, I taught you some South African slang (see slides 45-48 for the notes and slang words). Homework: book club prep sheet (last one), and reading the rest of the book (to page 288).
Today we worked on 80 Moments from the 80s (due Thursday). See slides 43-44 for the instructions. and click HERE for the website to access the 80 Moments from the 80s from CNN. Don't forget: submit your spring analysis essay by 10pm tonight! If turnitin.com does not work, email me the essay and I will submit for you! You also need to read the multiculturalism article for tomorrow (just read, do not answer the questions on the worksheet).
Today we peer edited rough drafts, and then had work time for the final essay. Final essay is due by 5/22, on turnitin.com only, by 10pm. If you have trouble submitting, please email me the essay and I will submit for you! Have a good weekend!
Multiculturalism article to read for Tuesday Today we had our class discussion about the shifting American culture. There is a reflection that was answered individually (and going in a homework packet): To what extent was this cultural shift a good thing for America? Who benefited the most? Determine if the cultural shift made Americans selfish. Tomorrow we will be peer editing the rough drafts, and then you will have work time for your final essay (due by 5/22 at 10pm on turnitin.com)
Multiculturalism article to read for Tuesday Today we had Book Club 4, and spent time preparing for the assessment on May 31st. Please see slides 23-26 for the assignment and the potential assessment questions. This is open note and open book, so I encourage you to start preparing answers now. Also, you will have the four response logs due May 26th by 10pm, on turnitin.com (see slide 7 for the instructions). Homework: make sure you have the culture discussion prep work done (see Tuesday's blog post for the readings and directions). I will be stamping your prep work (basically notes and an answer for the question) tomorrow.
Today you had a reading day for The Evolution of Divorce, AIDS and Gay Rights, and "How to Watch Your Brother Die". You will be reading these articles to formulate an answer (that you will write down as part of your homework packet) to one of the following questions (see slides 39-40 for more directions):
Don't forget: you need to submit your spring essay rough draft by 10pm tonight. You will also need to bring a hard copy for class tomorrow. We will also have book club tomorrow, so make sure you have read to page 205. |
