As the assessment for our non-African American civil rights movement unit, you are going to write a thesis driven paragraph, using at least two quotes from any of the readings, PowerPoints, or assignments from this week. The movements we have studied are: Chicano, American Indian Movement, gay rights (Stonewall Riots and Harvey Milk), and feminism. You have the full 50 minutes for the block to work, and you should submit by 10pm tonight to Non-African American Civil Rights Assessment.
Prompt: compare and contrast two of the movements with their goals and progress with achieving these goals. In plain terms, we want you to look at a movement, highlight their goals and if they achieved their goals, and compare/contrast them (similarities and differences) to another movement. You could look at feminism and American Indian Movement, or Chicano and feminism, or feminism and gay rights. Today I took the full block for environmentalism. You should read "Spaceship Earth" and answer the question on the reading. Please submit to turntin.com by 10pm tonight (Environmentalism).
I took the full 50 minutes today. We are looking at our last major civil rights group, and focusing on feminism. Your task today is to read "Women's Liberation Aims to Free Men, Too" by Gloria Steinem, and answer the questions at the end of the worksheet. You will submit the questions by 10pm tonight on turnitin.com (Steinem Questions).
Discussion day (both classes, and everything is going in both gradebooks equally). Please see Santos' website for directions.
I took the full 50 minutes today. We are looking at the gay rights movement by reading an article about the Stonewall Riots, and an article on Harvey Milk. You should read both, taking notes, and then spend the rest of the time preparing for the discussion tomorrow (directions can be found on Santos' website).
Santos took the full 50 minutes. Please see her website for the directions and assignments, as well as the sign-up for the discussion on Friday.
I am taking the full 50 minutes today. Today we explored other civil rights movements by taking brief notes on the Chicano civil rights movement (slides 1-6), and then reading the poem "Yo Soy Joaquin (I am Joaquin)", and answering the analysis questions on slide 7. Please submit these to turnitin.com by 10pm tonight.
OPTIONAL work: if you have time and want to explore this movement more, here is a great background essay. Today is your integrated, open note assessment for the Civil Rights Movement. You should spend no more than 50 minutes on the assessment, and submit by 10pm tonight on turnitin.com (African American Civil Rights Movement Assessment folder). This assessment is for both Cossano and Santos, and will be worth 20 points in culminating in BOTH gradebooks.
Please see slides 19-23 for the directions and prompts. This is an 11 sentence essay that you will type and submit to turnitin.com. Please make sure you do this in 11 sentences, and not full essay/paragraph format. If you have any questions, please email Cossano or Santos today. Today I took the whole 50 minutes for our block. You should read Alice Walkers "Civil Rights Movement: What Good Was It?", and do the paragraph on slide 18 (notes on slides 16-17). The paragraph is due by 10pm tonight.
Please make sure you submit your essay by 10pm tonight on turnitin.com! |
