Today we continued with our literature of the Great Depression unit by listening to and analyzing Woody Guthrie songs (slides 22-24), and then talking about the importance of arts (slides 25-29). I then introduced John Steinbeck and The Grapes of Wrath (slides 30-38), and you critically read a chapter excerpt. No homework.
Today we started looking at literature and art during the Great Depression. We looked at the photography of Dorothea Lange, and the music of Woody Guthrie. You did a free write (slide 6), analyzed photographs (slides 11-21), and analyzed two songs (slides 22-24). No homework over the weekend.
We are analyzing the film Midnight in Paris to further our understanding of the Lost Generation (including Hemingway and Fitzgerald) in the 1920s. See the Midnight in Paris PowerPoint for the learning targets, background on the Lost Generation, and the reflection questions on the last slide (going in the homework packet due Friday 1/5).
