Today we peer edited rough drafts, then had time to work on the Journey Poems (slides 26-29, and in your poetry packet) . Journey poem is due Monday at the start of class. Final comparative analysis essay is due between 12/5-12/9.
Today we wrote our own childhood poems (slide 25). We then started our Journey Poems (in the Poetry Packet: Journey Poem). These are due Friday.

Today we finished our childhood poetry analysis. See the Poetry Packet: Poems of Childhood for the poems and the directions. Due tonight by 10pm on turnitin.com: Comparative Analysis essay rough draft. Make sure you also bring a hard copy to class tomorrow!
Today we worked on the Postcard Poem (slides 18-22, with directions on slide 21). I then introduced the Childhood Poem analysis (see the Poetry Packet: Poems of Childhood). You will have another work period on Tuesday for the poem analysis.
Today we had work time for the Comparative Analysis rough draft. These are due Tuesday, 11/29, at 10pm on turnitin.com (under Revision 2). You must also bring a hard copy to class on Wednesday so we can peer edit.
Today, I stamped the poetry quick writes from yesterday, and we worked on Personification and Onomatopoeia by coming up with group ideas (see slides 10-15 for the class work). We then got our 10 Line Poem assignment (slide 16), and had work time. These are due tomorrow.
Today we shared (and I stamped) the How to Read a Poem work from Friday. I then introduce the poetry quick writes (pages 2-4 in the Poetry Packet), and you had work time. You must write four of the six poems described, for class tomorrow. Do not forget: outlines are due tonight by 10pm, on turnitin.com as Revision 1.
Today we started our Poetry Unit! We wrote an acrostic poem (using the letters of our names), then watched two clips from Dead Poet's Society, and took some brief notes on how to read a poem. I also gave you poetry packets for the unit. Homework is to use the how to read a poem directions (either in poetry packet or on slides 5-9 of attached PowerPoint) to analyze a 20 line poem of your choice. These are due Monday.

Monday and Tuesday we had book club presentations. No homework.
Wednesday and Thursday were the last two work period for the book club presentations (see slides 14-19).
Monday we did a gallery walk of the fairytale archetypes. We then spent the rest of the period, and class on Tuesday, analyzing Lilo & Stitch for archetypes.
