Today we had Book Club 3 and created a movie poster (Book Club PP slides 7-8 for the directions). You also had the chance to finish your author posters from Book Club 2.

Today was Book Club 2. We created an author poster (see slide 7 of the Book Club PP for the directions). Your whole group must complete just one author poster. Due tonight: submit your Multiple Genres/Perspectives story by 10pm on turnitin.com.

Today we had our character/setting discussion using Pirates of the Caribbean. If you were absent, make sure you show me your discussion question notes from last week. We then moved on to Point of View/Genres by taking notes. Today we started with reading the Wolf's Perspective of The Three Little Pigs as a way to discuss the importance of perspective in a story. We did a practice exercise writing from a boy/girl/teacher perspective (slide 17...going in a homework packet for The Novel Unit). Finish this for homework. We also talked about different genres in writing (slide 18).
We used Pirates of the Caribbean to analyze the importance of proper character and setting development in a story. Friday we will have a graded class discussion (see slide 36 of The Novel Unit PP for the questions). Do not forget: due Thursday, your self story (on turnitin.com by 10pm).
Today we took brief notes on setting (slides 25-34 of The Novel Unit PP for notes). We then worked on a partner writing assignment creating a novel outline using the title Freshman Year at University (see slide 35 of The Novel Unit PP for the assignment). Do not forget: due Thursday, your self story (on turnitin.com by 10pm).
Today I introduced The Novel unit by giving a quick lecture on the novel and character development. See The Novel Unit PP, slides 1-22, for the notes. We then created superhero or villains of ourselves (slides 23-24 of the same PowerPoint).
Today we worked on the self story (see slides 5-6 of The Self PP for directions). The story is due on turnitin.com by 9/15 at 10pm.
Today we checked out textbooks, then continued working on The Self-Part Two (directions on The Self PP, slide 3).
Today we continued our Self Unit. If you did not finish the self letter from Friday, you turned it in today. I also collected the signed syllabus. We then worked on The Self-Part One, and The Self-Part Two. Please see the The Self PP, slides 2-3, for the directions. Tomorrow is more work time for The Self-Part Two.
We made it through the first week! Today I went over what creative writing means, and gave you a tip sheet (called CWWriting Tips ). We then did a self letter writing assignment. Please see the Self Storytelling PP directions. We will have a few minutes to finish on Tuesday. Don't forget to bring in your signed syllabus!
Today was all about getting back to school. We went over the syllabus (due 9/6), did a getting to know you notecard activity, and then did a free write using Apples to Apples and the word 'mortician'. No homework.
